West Sacramento Code Enforcement Division is dedicated to working in partnership with residents, tenants, landlords and business owners to maintain and improve the quality of life in neighborhoods, commercial corridors and industrial areas. Code Enforcement Division's main objectives are to educate and promote the health, safety, and welfare of the community by ensuring all adopted city codes are achieved. The majority of our Code Enforcement cases are violations of the Public Nuisance Code, Title 19 of the West Sacramento City Municipal Code

Most Common Code Violations 

  • vehicle parked on lawn

    Parking or storage of any vehicle, boat, trailer, camper, motor home or other mobile equipment, are prohibited on front lawns, or in front or street side yard setbacks, except on paved driveways and other legal parking spaces.

  • Vehicle Blocking Sidewalk

    Obstructions or encroachments upon a public street, sidewalk or right-of-way is prohibited without prior City consent. This can include, vehicles, low hanging branches, debris, and basketball hoops.

    Junk or rubbish including broken, abandoned or discarded furniture, appliances, fixtures, packing boxes, lumber or fencing built with non-fencing materials, which are visible from a public or street, sidewalk or right-of-way is prohibited.

  • Graffiti

    Buildings, fences or other structures, the exterior walls or windows, which are visible from a public or private street, sidewalk or right-of-way, containing graffiti or other inscribed material are prohibited and must be removed immediately.

  • Overgrown Landscape

    Accumulation of weeds, rank growths, dirt, litter, rubbish or debris visible from a public or private street, sidewalk or right-of-way is prohibited. All landscaping must be maintained year round.

  • Substandard Housing

    Substandard buildings and structures can endanger the life, limb, health, property, safety or welfare of the public or the occupants and must meet the required minimum standards. This can include, mold, lack of heat, water intrusion, infestations, and plumbing.

  • Inoperable vehicle

    It is unlawful and a violation for any person to abandon a vehicle on private property without property owner's consent. All vehicles must be whole and complete and may be asked to demonstrate operability upon inspection.

  • Garbage bin

    Carts must be placed by 6:00 a.m. on collection day and placed side-by-side at least two (2) feet apart and three (3) feet away from parked cars and other objects. Carts must be removed promptly after service and no later than 24 hours after service.
